Provinces/ Territories

Enhancing and supporting respiratory health initiatives has been at the core of the National Lung Health Framework development. Incorporating priorities identified through extensive provincial/territorial engagement, the Framework is being used as a template by provincial and territorial governments and stakeholders to develop local respiratory health strategies. Some are respiratory specific frameworks or strategies, while others are strategic plans which integrate respiratory issues within a larger health/healthy living strategy.

The role of the Framework is to continue to enhance communications, encourage alignments, collaboration and partnerships, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and successes between stakeholders for the benefit of all living in Canada.

Provincial and territorial stakeholders from all sectors (both governmental and non-governmental) participated in a series of cross-Canada workshops between 2007 and 2008. These workshops were an opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback on the Framework, and to explore the challenges, opportunities and next steps to move forward on respiratory issues within their own communities and regions.
